Tutor System

Every new foreign student is assigned a graduate student from Graduate School of Engineering as a Tutor. The tutors role is to provide extracurricular coaching on a personal level for the new student. In addition, the tutor can also act as a “sempai”, which means “an  older, more experienced friend”, who can help the new international student form networks and friendships that can benefit his academic and general life at Nagoya University.

This system is very useful for foreign students. We encourage you to take full advantage of the Tutor Service.

Examples of  the services that  tutors have been providing for new International Students  include:

  • Catching up with studies
  •  Learning the Japanese language
  •  Becoming acquainted with facilities at Nagoya University
  •  Getting used to the Japanese culture
  • Conducting research(mainly graduate students)
  • Studying for entrance examination(research students only)
  • Getting used to living in Nagoya
  • Learning the Japanese language
  • Getting used to the Japanese culture

Tutors provide the service for a total 80 hours (40 hours each semester).
